We have three goals:
The Primary goal of our advocacy is for the Canadian or Alberta government to acquire the land and declare the Nose Creek Valley a provincial or national park, from the northern edge of the Greenview Industrial Area in the South to the City of Airdrie in the North including the Confluence Park area up West Nose Creek. This will require a joint effort between all levels of government to see this come to fruition.
Provincial or National Park Designation
Regional City Park Designation
To achieve our Primary goal, the City of Calgary will need to take strong leadership in ensuring the Valley in Calgary can be protected and move the area structure plan to include the creation of a Regional Park. This Regional Park in the Nose Creek Valley would be from the northern edge of the Greenview Industrial Area in the South to Calgary’s City Limits in the North, including the Confluence Park area up West Nose Creek. Calgary can and should take the lead in the stewardship of the Nose Creek Valley so that other municipalities (Rockyview County and Airdrie) can follow our lead. This stewardship begins with increasing Nose Creek setbacks from 100ft (30m) to 300ft (90m).
Providing Nose Creek with a Voice in Developments and Infrastructure Improvements
To achieve our Primary and Secondary goals, Calgary needs to cast a new vision for the projects in development in the Valley, with the vision of a future regional park at its heart. Raising main roads like Country Hills Boulevard and 128 Avenue higher through the Valley will allow for Nature to come back underneath these roads and allow the creation of a park to be developed over time. Creating community spaces, active mode pathways and saving sorely needed green space for residents in North Central Calgary.
